National Park in the heart of the Alps

The main attraction of the incentive tour to Berchtesgaden is Hitler's Eagle's Nest (Kehlstein haus), however that is far from the only thing you can experience and visit here. Apart from a few tourist attractions that are made with German precision, Berchtesgaden is dominated by breathtaking nature, led by the magical Königssee and the majestic Watzmann. Berchtesgaden is part of the national park that carries the same name and is most often associated with two natural attractions: the Watzmann mountain, which at 2713m is the third highest in Germany, and the deep glacial lake Königssee. Another highlight of the program is an interactive tour of the active salt mines, which have been supplying households with the famous Bad Reichenhall salt for many years.

Another appealing location is undoubtedly the Kehlstein peak, on which Martin Borman built a fortified retreat for Adolf Hitler as a 50th birthday present. The facility is now open to the public by a combination of a special bus and lift ride inside the mountain, and offers spectacular views in all directions, including the nearby Watzmann mountain.
Berchtesgaden itself, despite its nearly thousand-year history, gained importance in the 16th century with the development of salt mining. Throughout its existence, it has been a sought-after resting place and artist's retreat. After 1920, the town was occupied by the Nazis, who built a mountain residence called Berghof. Thanks to this, at the end of the Second World War Berchtesgaden became an important target for the Allied troops. A military zone and recreational resorts for American soldiers were established here and remained until the withdrawal of American forces in the Clinton era.
Today Berchtesgaden prides itself on tourism. Among the sports industries, we ought to mention the ski slopes and the ice track, where international bobsleigh, luge and skeleton races are regularly held. The International Luge Federation is based here and Georg Hackl, winner of three gold and two silver medals at the Olympic Games, ten-time world champion and two-time World Cup winner, comes from here as well.
