Cradle of the Renaissance and cultural gems
Florence, the capital of Italian Tuscany, situated on the Arno River is one of the most beautiful and oldest cities in Italy and Europe. It has made a significant contribution to the development of history in many fields of science, art, literature and philosophy. Florence is also home to most of the world's cultural heritage. This is evidenced by the huge number of cultural attractions and historical monuments. For example, the historic city center, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1982. In the Middle Ages, Florence was a center of commerce and art and one of the richest cities ever. Florence is especially world famous for its architecture and art from the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Thanks to this period the city contains countless valuable gems.
Here you can admire the works of such greats as Donatello (1386–1466) – sculptor and artist of the early Renaissance, Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519) – painter, sculptor, architect, naturalist and inventor, Michelangelo Buonarotti (1475–1564) – sculptor, architect and painter. Dante Alighieri (1265–1321) – poet, whose most famous work is the Divine Comedy, Giovanni Boccaccio (1313–1375) – renaissance poet and novelist, Galileo Galilei (1564–1642) – astronomer, philosopher and physicist; and contemporary Guccio Gucci (1881–1953) – fashion designer.
The city is nowadays also visited for its large number of festivals, celebrations and festivals that are held here throughout the year.

Wine tasting in Florence
Florentine and Tuscan wines are known worldwide. The most famous of which is undoubtedly the Chianti. Two of Florence's main noble families and great rivals, the Antinori and Frescobaldi, started producing wine eight centuries ago.
If you're in Florence, you can't miss the opportunity to taste selected Tuscan wines. In the city, you can visit a wine cellar "cantina" and indulge in a tasting of excellent wine or take a wine tour inside a wine shop "enoteca". You can also take a wine tour with a specialized guide who will introduce you to and allow you to taste the best wines in the world.
Visit the best markets in Florence
The Mercato di San Lorenzo is located on the road from Piazza S. Lorenzo to Via dell'Ariento and all around the Basilica of St. Lorenzo. You can find just about everything here. It is probably the most important market in the whole city. It is open from Tuesday to Saturday.
The Mercato Centrale is part of the Mercato di San Lorenzo and can be found in Via dell'Ariento. It is probably the best food market in the city. It is open every day from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm, except Sundays and public holidays. In winter it is only open on Saturdays and the days before public holidays.

Bridges and gardens
Ponte Vechio – Florence's most famous bridge, the Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge) was built over the Arno River by the architect Neri di Fioravante in 1345. The bridge is flanked on both sides by rows of small shops that give it a unique appearance.
The Boboli Gardens, which belong to the Palazzo Pitti, have been built gradually since the 15th century. Today they offer Renaissance and Baroque sections with many fountains, statues and even grottoes. Thanks to its location, the gardens also offer a beautiful view of Florence. During the Renaissance, the gardens were the venue for festivals and balls held by members of the Medici family.
Museums and galleries
Galeria Degli Uffizi is the most visited gallery in Florence and one of the most famous galleries in the world. It is located in the Uffizi Palace on the banks of the Arno River and is shaped like a "U". Its extensive collections include works by Sandro Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Lucas Cranach, Albrecht Dürer, Michelangelo Buonarroti, Raffaelo Sanzio, Titian, Peter Paul Rubens, Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Giotto, Masaccio and many others.
Statues and fountains
Neptune's Fountain – this monument, which can be found in Piazza della Signoria, dates back to 1565 and was created by Bartolomeo Ammannati. The fountain was originally commissioned to Baccio Bandinelli, but he only managed to complete the design and after his death the fountain was finished by his pupil, the aforementioned Ammannati.
Statue of David – Florence's most famous statue was created between 1501 and 1504 by Renaissance artist Michelangelo Buonarotti, commissioned by the Florentine Signoria. The statue is made of marble, weighs 18 tons and measures an impressive 517cm (410cm without the base).
Statue of Perseus with the head of Medusa – this bronze statue was created in 1545 by Benvenuto Cellini and is located in the Piazza della Signoria, where it was unveiled when the original statue of David by Michelangelo was still standing nearby.
