For motors, fashion and distinctive cuisine

Milan is Italy's second largest city, the capital of the Lombardy region and the province of Milan. It is famous as a city of commerce, banks and fashion, as well as the home of La Scala Opera House and the football clubs AC and Inter Milan. The city itself has 1.3 million inhabitants, with a large and contiguous surrounding agglomeration of up to 4 million. Milan is the cultural, both historical and modern city of northern Italy. The suburb of Monza boasts the world-famous Circuit of Monza Royal Park, which has hosted the Italian Grand Prix since 1923. It has a completely unique atmosphere, thanks to the tens of thousands of Italian fans boisterously supporting the Ferrari cars. Despite the chicanes, it is the fastest circuit in the entire World Championship. Milan today is an important commercial and industrial center. Milan is home to a number of large banks, the headquarters of major companies (Pirelli, Alfa Romeo, etc.) and the regular FieraMilano trade fairs. Milan is a major rail and motorway hub and has two international airports. It is also called the Mecca of fashion and design. Most of Italy's leading fashion brands such as Valentino, Gucci, Versace, Prada, Armani and Dolce & Gabbana are currently based in this city.

Like most cities in Italy, Milan and its surroundings have their own regional cuisine, which, like Lombard cuisine in general, uses rice more often than pasta. You’ll also hardly find tomatoes in the Lombard cuisine. Milanese cuisine includes 'Cotoletta alla Milanese', or breaded veal schnitzel fried in butter. Other typical dishes are braised pork ribs with sausage and cabbage, 'braised veal bone with turkey in a sauce called gremolata, risotto with saffron and beef turkey, braised tripe with beans, braised beef or pork in wine with potatoes. Seasonal pastries include fritters sprinkled with sugar and 'Tortelli' (fried spherical biscuits). Milan's most famous cheese is gorgonzola from the nearby town of the same name, although today the main producers of gorgonzola are based in Piedmont.
