Norway, Lofoten Islands
Fishing villages in the Arctic Circle
With its extraordinary natural scenery, Norway's Lofoten archipelago offers an extraordinary experience of discovering the beauty of the region, complemented by cultural attractions including traditional fishing villages, a Viking museum and a tour of Sami culture. Thanks to its location, it is possible to watch the Northern Lights in winter and the midnight sun in summer.
The Lofoten Islands are an archipelago off the Norwegian coast consisting of about 80 islands. Although they are referred to in English as plural islands, in Norwegian their name Lofoten is singular, composed of the words "lo" (lynx), "fot" (foot) and the definite article "en".
The Lofoten Islands run out from the Norwegian mainland into the Atlantic Ocean and lie about 100 to 300 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle. The most important islands are connected by tunnels and road bridges. The archipelago has approximately 24 000 inhabitants living in an area of 1227 km2.
The main source of livelihood for the Lofoten people is tourism, fishing and related industries. Hundreds of small fishing boats take part in the fishing season, which takes place from mid-January to mid-April each year. Most of the catch consists of adult cod, which is then dried.

Tips for accommodation
As the tour is of sightseeing nature, the most suitable option is to change starting points and therefore find accommodation in several hotels. You can use the services of Thon hotels, specifically hotels in Bodø, Svolvær and Harstad. The Thon chain is one of the largest in Northern Europe and offers luxury accommodation with appropriate services.
JAs an attractive alternative to the luxury hotels in the THON chain, we offer comfortable accommodation in fishermen's rorbueras – traditional fishermen's houses converted into hotels. A standard rorbuer consists of two bedrooms with shared bathroom facilities, but it is also possible to arrange double or multi-bed rorbuers.
TRANSPORT TO THE DESTINATION
We recommend arriving in the North Norwegian town of Bodø. The flight from Prague takes seven to eight hours including a stopover in Oslo. The tour of the Lofoten archipelago begins with a ferry ride to the port of Moskenes. A luxury coach is available throughout the tour. A return flight will be arranged from Evenes (Narvik), which, including a stopover in Oslo, will take five to six hours.
